    NEWS ARCHIVES 2005

In the latest bizarre twist, The Autumns managed to hit #28 on the iTunes rock chart over the weekend, as well as #96 on the overall chart. This put them in the company of such unknowns as U2 and Elton John. How is this possible? It isn't, but occasionally the impossible gets up and jigs.
Our new merchandise section is now up. Check it out here. And once again, we intend to post a video of the Spaceland show very soon.
Lastly, our friend Angela Shelton has accomplished the ultimate: November 6 is now Angela Shelton Day in Asheville, North Carolina. It will commemorate and honor victims of sexual abuse. Be sure to visit her site (in the LINKS section) and congratulate her. Her film (which The Autumns had the honor of scoring) has now won several Best Documentary awards.

Good news on all fronts. First off, there are two Autumns shows approaching: Spaceland on 12/10 and the Garden Grove Playhouse on 1/08. Secondly, the new album is receiving rave reviews overseas; which means it's time for us to tour the UK. We will be playing a number shows with The Dears come January and February. Finally, if you have not already noticed, iTunes is featuring the new album. Go to genre and choose "alternative." Sandwiched somewhere between Green Day and Nirvana, you'll find The Autumns. Go figure.
Also worth mentioning, The Autumns merchandise store at www.theAutumns.com will be up and running shortly. Along with records, we will have T-shirts, buttons, and stickers available. We'll keep you posted.
One last thing. If you plan on attending the Spaceland show, which we highly recommend, we ask that you bring your digital video camera. Chris Michael, who is responsible for the Eskimo Swin video, is going to edit the video footage, and we'll post on our website. The more footage we have the better. If you are able to film the show, contact us at the_autumns@yahoo.com.

The Autumns burgeoning romance with that small, distant, and curiously influential island known as the United Kingdom is off to a dashing start. In a four-star review, MOJO has described the band as "masters of structure and dynamics," deeming the record "glorious... unutterably beautiful" and "hugely powerful." Q has called the new album "impressive stuff" and the illustrious UNCUT has speculated on a soon-to-swell overseas Autumns cult, deeming the record "euphoric" and "searing." Plans are being hatched for a short winter tour with Bella Union label mates The Dears. Should they come to fruition, we will post the details here.
The Gardengrove Playhouse show is being rescheduled for early January. However, The Autumns will have the honor of appearing at Spaceland (clubspaceland.com) on Friday, December 10, with the seminal Sugarplastic and pop prodigies Hong Kong Six. Both bands are listed in the LINKS section of this site. Do not miss this inspired convergence.
Also, new interviews are posted at The People's Dance Party and Antidote. Check the INTERVIEWS section (located in the BIO section) for the relevant links.
And lastly, the more prolific bloggers and web-denizens among you may want to visit the Bella Union site (bellaunion.com) to join the discussion forum. Go tell it on the mountain...

Greetings Fellow Travelers,
The new Autumns album will be officially released in the states on Pseudopod Records come September 7th. However, if all goes as planned, advance copies will be available at the next Autumns show on July 30th. Copies are being delivered to us on July 29th, cutting it rather close . . . Since the show is taking place in Los Angeles, many of you will not be able to attend. Do not despair. Advance copies will also be available at www.pseudopodrecords.com.

Bella Union is releasing the album in Europe this October. We have not yet fixed a release date. Check back with us. Also, be sure to check out The Autumns tour page for upcoming shows: Tijuana, San Francisco, Phoenix . . .

Recently, The Autumns were asked by Ad Astra Books to contribute lyrical compositions to a book called Revolution on Canvas. Over fifty bands contributed either lyrics, poetry, or artwork. The Autumns decided to include lyrics to two b- sides, Lux and Night Music, songs that will appear, fingers crossed, on a b-sides album slated tentatively for release come January 2005. Ad Astra Books has already sold fifty-thousand copies of the book. Another fifty-thousand copies are to be printed in the near future. In order to pick-up a copy, visit AdAstraBooks.com, Hot Topic, or purchase directly from The Autumns. The Autumns will be selling copies for $5 at upcoming shows. Ad Astra Books is donating the proceeds to the National Center for Family Literacy.

In other news, official release of The Autumns new album is slated for September. Bella Union is releasing the album in Europe and beyond. A brand new label, Pseudopod Records, which boasts a fabulous staff, is releasing the album domestically. Pseudopod Records will have advance copies of the album available for purchase online and at Autumns shows in late June or early July. We will keep you posted. Copies will be available July 30th at the upcoming Bella Union showcase, hosted by Violaine, held at the Catch One, 4067 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. Hope to see you there!

Most of you already know that The Autumns scored a film last year, "Searching for Angela Shelton." (www.angelashelton.com). The film has not yet been released, however, 48 Hours (CBS) is airing an hour long special dedicated to the movie on Wednesday, March 10. 48 Hours interviewed both Frankie and Matthew regarding their involvement in the movie. They were kind of boring, so they probably did not make the final edit. But, who knows . . .
As to other news, The Autumns will be releasing the new album with The First Time Records (www.tftrecords.com) in the U.S. come June and with Bella Union (www.bellaunion.com) in the U.K. shortly thereafter. Currently, we're putting together the finishing touches on the artwork. We'll let you all know the specific release dates once we know them ourselves.

The Autumns are finally hitting the road again after a three-year-long absence. The band blew up their van on the last "Russet Gold" tour. Fortunately, the van has been repaired, and the band promises to check the oil more often. Once the new album is released, The Autumns plan to tour more extensively. See the Tour link for more information. The Autumns are currently discussing terms with two indie labels, one in the U.S. and one in the U.K. A release date for the new album will be announced once The Autumns sign on the dotted line, so to speak. Thanks for being patient. For those of you who do not already know, last spring The Autumns scored the movie "Angela Shelton" directed by Angela Shelton. Angela recently appeared on Oprah. Rumor has it that Barbara Walters also has requested an interview. Moreover, 48 Hours is currently shadowing Angela. 48 Hours plans to do a one hour special talking about the movie, and The Autumns were interviewed for the show. We'll keep you posted as to when the show will air. Also of interest, "Particles of Truth" is set to air on the Sundance channel in December/January. The movie features Glass in Lullabies from "The Angel Pool." Lastly, you may hear a couple of Autumns songs on MTV's The Ozbournes. Go figure.

What is going on? This is the question many are asking. First and foremost, The Autumns are approaching the mix stage of the new album. Unfortunately, the proverbial well has run dry. Two difficulties have perpetually beset this project: funding and perfectionism. The two tend to fuel one another. And, in a case like this, procurance of the former proves particularly difficult, since most would-be investors believe, correctly, that a solid return will not be forthcoming. As many of you know, The Autumns have had troubled relations with labels from the very beginning. The new album is no exception. In order to finish this project, we have decided to fund the remaining stages of the recording process ourselves. In real terms, this wondrous collection of recordings has already cost more than all other Autumns projects combined. We note this only to underscore the prodigious nature of the undertaking. We are, frankly, humble and ordinary persons who have gotten in a little over our heads. We are left with nothing but a near perfect record. We simply need to mix. Unfortunately, this will cost $10,000.00 more.

This brings us to an important point. Many of you have written asking, "What can we do to get this thing to come out?" Here is the answer. The Autumns will perform a very special show on Feb. 5, 2003, at The Renegade Theater in North Hollywood. 100 tickets will be sold for $50.00 a piece. Those who take the plunge on behalf of this record will receive the following gifts in return for this outrageously expensive ticket:

1. A very long Autumns show, of course.

2. A new, limited-edition CD which features three unreleased tracks, Lux, Flail Dins, and Il Duce plus the original recording of Unfolding and Fading produced by Andy Metcalfe (Robin Hitchcock, The Squeeze) and engineered by Jamie Seyberth (the new album). Only 100 will be pressed. They are for you, the consummate patron.

3. A free copy of the new Self-Titled Release upon its release this spring/summer.

4. Very good food and wine.

5. The satisfaction that you have contributed to completing the new album. Every penny made will be used during the mixing process of the album. We are indebted to Jeff Thom of Gadfly Productions and the Renegade Theater for providing us a venue.

We can only hope this proves motivation enough. Tickets will go on sale January 15 and can be purchased by credit card from the Renegade Theater Hotline, 818-763-1834. Show details will be on the hotline message. This promises to be a truly special engagement. Thank you all very, very much for your ongoing support.

In other news, Autumns Frankie Koroshec and Matthew Kelly have been hired to score two new films by writer/director Angela Shelton, whose previous film, Tumbleweeds, was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Golden Globe. This has been an exciting and promising development, and the Autumns are honored to be working with the talented and beautiful Ms. Shelton. Matthew also recently had the honor of singing on Ben Eshbach's (Sugarplastic) forthcoming solo album, which promises to be one of the most brilliant records of 2003.

Also, drummer Steve Elkins continues work on his film debut, a documentary on improvisational music featuring Nels Cline, Fred Frith, and a number of other avant-garde giants. Steve also recently returned from a tour of the United States with his band Midsummer.

And lastly, new member Dustin Morgan just completed a two-week tour of Cuba with his jazz ensemble.
